Alright, I’m writing about the ThermoPro TP20 because of one major thing: I left the transmitter outside in the backyard for about four months in water through the winter. I don’t know what happened; guessing the kids, other food to attend to, who knows… but I forgot about this thing and found it in a bucket of rain water. You can even see the orange color is totally sun bleached. It sat in water for months and still works!!

TLDR; Stop cooking meat like shit and buy one!
I’ve been impressed by this thing since I bought it. At the time, we were living in San Francisco in a home that was made of plaster walls filled with chicken wire. The BBQ was located in the backyard, and kitchen towards the front of the house. I was skeptical it was going to work, but functioned perfectly.
Now, we could see the BBQ temp and meat temp in the backyard from upstairs in the kitchen — this is a game changer!
Fast forward to over two years of usage, four months of the transmitter sitting in a bucket of rain water, and the thing still totally works. I will note that since the bucket of water, I can no longer change the transmitter to fahrenheit, but it doesn’t really matter since the receiver, the unit inside your house, works in fahrenheit just fine.
In the photo above, you may see one of the wireless probes in its holder that clamps between the grill slats. This provides “oven” temp, ie. temps far beyond what you would cook something to.
Another thing to note is you can definitely use this inside your home oven. Baking is often ruined by inaccurate temperature sensor and the ThermoPro TP20 can definitely help.
You’ll see the transmitter is showing the temp in celsius. This is stuck, as far as I can tell, since being submerged in water. I literally had to wire-brush rust off the battery contacts. After that, it worked!!
We keep the wireless bbq thermometer receiver inside next to our stove.
Things you should know
It has several modes: Alert by specific temperature, “meat” and “taste” buttons that allow you to use preset ideal temps. ie. Medium Rare Beef, Chicken, Pork, etc.

Plain and simple, if you cook, you should own one. I’ve used it for oil temps frying, monitoring oven temps while baking, but mostly cooking on the BBQ to perfection. Stop overcooking shit already!! Buy a ThermoPro TP20. Two years later and I would buy it again in a second. In fact, I bought two more for christmas gifts last Christmas.
